Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Posted on 21/12/2010

As 2010 draws to an end, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone at Chesterfield Tae Kwon Do for helping make Chesterfield School a real pleasure to instruct at.

When I wrote a similar note for the website last year I was delighted with how the club had grown and the family/friendly atmosphere that had been established. Another year on, I am genuinely thrilled by the successes that have been seen during the year and yet again and most importantly the fantastic/supportive atmosphere that has been created.

During the year, all of you have been successful in achieving new grades, which many of you have passed with merits and distinctions. A lot of you have supported the New Century Area Tae Kwon Do schools by regularly attending Area Squad training sessions or taking part in area competitions. Some Students have also travelled further afield and competed in PUMA National tournaments, successfully bringing back medals in sparring, patterns and weapons categories. A particular well done to Jon-Paul Sainty who won the British Championships in his Sparring Division.

Also this year, PUMA hosted the ICTF International Championships and ‘Fight Night’, which was again supported by Chesterfield Students, who competed in the colour belt divisions.

Personally I have enjoyed another fun filled year of Tae Kwon Do. I have been fortunate enough to represent PUMA and compete in International Tournaments (ICTF and Irish Open) and in October graded and was promoted to 4th Degree Black Belt. This said one of my most pleasurable moments of 2010 was being able to congratulate David Hannon for passing his Black Belt 1st Degree after much perseverance on his part! Well done David - we were all so very pleased for you!

Looking ahead into 2011, I look forward to seeing all of you succeed in your new Tae Kwon Do ventures, whether it be further gradings or competitions or simply joining in with PUMA/area events such as Summer and Winter Camps. Several of the club are due to take Black Belts and higher Dan grades as well as take instructor/assistant instructor courses. The PUMA calendar is certainly looking busy, with the PUMA Ball and the Black Belt International Tournament all taking place very soon in the New Year.

So finally.....from mums and dads, to Little PUMAs and Tae Kwon Do students, to the club Secretary (mum), to the Website Administrator (Thomas Bailey), and to all of you that give up your time to assist and instruct on a regular basis, a BIG MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! Thank you for your support during 2010, enjoy the festive break and make sure you are ready for some hard training to work off the Christmas Chocolates in the New Year!

The first class of 2011 is Monday 10th Jan.
