Summer camp 2010 took place at Croyde Bay in Devon from 24th-31st August. Emma Deakin, David Deakin and Thomas Bailey attended from Chesterfield club. Here is a write up of the camp by David Deakin.
SUMMER CAMP 2010
“First time at TKD Summer Camp”
Picked up Mr Bailey early on Saturday morning 26/7/10 for the drive down to Devon. Both of us excited but with a little trepidation as to what would befall. The drive down was pleasant with much speculation, that is until we reached Bristol when we hit heavy traffic, which put an hour on the journey.
When we finally arrived at camp, Cherry Tree Farm Croyde bay the weather was overcast and a little damp, Mr Bailey stated to have grim forebodings of a wet week and instead of TAE KWON DO we would end up doing mud wrestling. The welcome however was warm and we were shown where to pitch our tents and to park the car. We were given a little help from Miss Deakin and Miss Weatherer, but not much, but soon made ourselves at home and with the weather brightening. All was splendid.
A little later we were gathered at our outdoors DO Jang and addressed by Master Galye and Master Ogbourne. We were then placed into teams in which we would train with and compete in for the remainder of the camp. We were allowed time to get to know our team members before being given the timetable for the week and being dismissed.
Sunday morning was to set the tone for the rest of the week. Up early to be on the DO JANG by 0645 for team warm up before we all joined together for general warm up, then, ‘horror of horrors’ to me, the morning run to the beach where training was to take place This entailed a run up a steep hill just outside the camp gates. After about 2 hours of training, a walk and jog back to camp for shower and breakfast Two afternoon sessions of an hour each (optional) were to follow, then form up for evening training of about 2 hours, You will be pleased to know Wednesday was free from training!
On Wednesday we had a quiz night in which we participated in teams followed by a B.B.Q.. Hooray no cooking! Thursday night a charity bingo was organsed. Much fun was had and a lot of money was raised for a good cause. Friday night brought on the prize- giving and a disco at the village hall.
I would like to say that the weather was fantastic, mainly sunny and hardly a spot of rain; the campsite was good with a wonderful view of Croyde. The camp was family friendly with all ages catered for . I cannot thank the senior grades and instructors enough, all gave of their time freely and willingly and nothing, no matter how trivial was too much for them.
All in all it was a hard but most enjoyable week and I would recommend it to any one who enjoys the sport.
