ICTF Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th June

A big well done to all PUMA members who competed in the Intercontinental Championships! The event which was hosted by PUMA was a really big success and attended by many international competitors.

The ‘Fight Night’ that was held on the Saturday evening was well supported and boasted a fantastic atmosphere. The evening ‘kicked off’ a superb demonstration form PUMAs Flowering Youth Demonstration Team, followed by introduction of Senior Officials/Master from visiting Countries.

The team patterns and sparring event then got underway. All PUMA students competed within the true spirit of Tae Kwon Do and some spectacular fight were witnessed. The PUMA Ladies team won a Silver medal in Team Patterns and Gold in Team Sparring, whilst the Men’s team bagged Gold in both events!!

The evening also saw Master Black promoted from 7th-8th Degree by the head of the ICTF, Canadian Master Cariati! Congratulations Sir!!

The high standard of competition continued into the Sunday Black belt individual categories, where, once again PUMA students were faced with some tough competition from foreign competitors. All students fought to the best of their abilities and many won Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals, with the support of PUMA coaches Mr Lamin, Miss McColl and Miss Francis.

A special well done to competitors from New Century Tae Kwon Do schools (pictured above) who took part in the event (pictured above). Results are as follows:

Miss Carly Atkinson 2nd Degree Individual Sparring- Silver
2nd Degree Cadet Patterns- Bronze

Mr Thomas Bailey (Green Belt) and Mr Aidan Bailey (Green Belt, Blue Stripe-Junior) also took part in the colour belt event on the Saturday. Mr Bailey managed a Bronze in Sparring and Aidan Bailey won Bronze in patterns!

Overall a fantastic results for our area competitors and the PUMA Squad!!!

History

General Choi Hong Hi Black Belt, 9th Degree 1918-2002

General Choi founded Tae Kwon-Do in 1955 and it is now the worlds most popular martial art.

Tae Kwon-Do literally means 'The way of the foot and fist'.
